Setup and Configuration Tips

You can't beat the great support you get from Sling Media's™ website, but... Below are some tips to help you avoid common setup and configuration issues you may encounter as an American TV 2 Go subscriber. Remember, your personal configuration may vary. Always check the documentation provided by your A/V equipment and computer manufacturer.

Where can I find the free SlingPlayer™ software?

Before you can try our Free Demo or connect to your personal Slingbox™, you will have to download and install the appropriate SlingPlayer™ software package found here. When the installer asks you for a "Slingfinder ID", enter the one that we emailed you or login to your American TV 2 Go account to look it up.

Should I install Slingbox™ firmware updates?

Our mantra is: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" If you install an update before we have a chance to test it for you, you run the risk of not being able to connect to your Slingbox™ until we find a workaround. When Slingmedia™ issues an update, we do the testing to make sure that installing it won't affect your ability to use our service. When we have any bugs worked out, we will notify you by email that it's safe to proceed.

How do I connect my TV to my computer?

First, your computer must have a video card that outputs video in a format that is compatible with your TV. Typical formats include "VGA", "SVGA", "Composite Video", "S-Video", "Component Video", "DVI", and "HDMI". You will have to consult the documentation from your TV and computer manufacturers to determine which type(s) of video input(s)/output(s) you have available.

Next, you need to have the appropriate cable(s) and/or adapter(s) to make the connection. We recommend that you look here if you need to purchase a cable or adapter.
